Mini Mite Volunteer Commitment

Twig Amateur Hockey Association is a volunteer-run organization, and every family plays an important role in making our outdoor hockey program possible.

As part of the Mini Mite program, each family is asked to submit a $200 volunteer assessment check at the beginning of the season. The check should be made payable to TAHA and dated February 1 of the following year.

The check is never cashed as long as your family's volunteer commitment is completed. Once your volunteer requirement has been fulfilled, your check will be voided and securely destroyed.

Mini Mite families are automatically assigned to the Concessions Assessment, but families who would prefer to help with Initial Flooding or In-Season Rink Maintenance are welcome to do so. If you'd like to switch assessment categories, please contact the Rink Director or Association President.

Your volunteer efforts help ensure our outdoor rink remains a place the entire community can enjoy.

🧃 Concessions Assessment (Default Option)

Help support the operation of Twig's concession stand throughout the hockey season.

To fulfill this commitment, each family must complete three concession shifts during the season that are typically 3-4 hours in length.

The outdoor hockey season typically runs from December 10 through February 10, although dates may vary depending on weather conditions.

💧 Initial Flooding Assessment

Help create the foundation of the season by building the first layers of ice.

Each family is expected to contribute four hours during the initial flooding period.

Initial flooding typically takes place during a 48–72 hour window within a couple of weeks after Thanksgiving, depending entirely on weather conditions.

Because flooding must occur when temperatures allow, volunteer shifts are often scheduled on short notice and may take place on weekdays.

Families with unavoidable scheduling conflicts should contact the Rink Director or TAHA President to discuss alternative arrangements.

❄️ In-Season Rink Maintenance Assessment

Help maintain safe, high-quality ice throughout the season.

Families select weekly flooding and ice maintenance shifts that are typically 3 hours in length and begin at 9:00PM  Maintenance nights are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Additionally, there are snow clearing only options on Saturday and Sunday. To fulfill this commitment, families must attend at least 75% of their scheduled shifts.

Because the outdoor season is weather-dependent and may end unexpectedly, families are encouraged to participate early rather than waiting until the end of the season.

🧊 Flooding & Ice Maintenance

Flooding and ice maintenance are essential to keeping the Twig outdoor rink safe and in great condition all season long.

Volunteer responsibilities may include:

  • Snow removal using shovels, tractors, or other equipment
  • Flooding the rink with hoses to build fresh layers of ice
  • Operating the mop or mop cart to smooth the ice surface
  • General rink maintenance and other tasks as needed

Every shift is led by a Flood Captain, who will assign responsibilities based on current weather and ice conditions.

Please dress for working outdoors in winter conditions and come prepared to help wherever needed. No prior experience is necessary—we'll show you everything you need to know.
